Specialized Environment to Address Your Child’s Individual Needs
The East Mountain School academic program is structured to be in compliance with the “The Core” and New Jersey Department of Education Common Curriculum Standards. Students at East Mountain School represent grades 7-12 and benefit from an intimate learning environment. The average class size is 8 students, and classrooms are equipped with a teacher and teacher-aide.
Students change classes within a four-member teaching team consisting of a Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English Teachers.
Self-Contained Middle School Program
Specialized small group academic programming available for students who require this type of setting.
Core Content Area Subjects
English Language Art Literacy, Mathematics, Science, History, Physical Education/Health. All classes meet the requirements of the New Jersey Common Core.
The school’s academic program has strong correlations with the use and applications of technology into the curriculum. Technology integration includes smart-boards in every classroom, iPads, laptops and Technology Labs.
Elective subjects offered include Cosmetology (new for 2017!), Art, Computers, Life Skills, Instrumental Music, Economics, Spanish, Industrial Arts/Technology.
Financial Literacy and Consumer Math meets current standards. Students are provided with instruction with key financial skills in learning to become functional and financially literate adults in our society.
Each student works with his or her own LCSW on post-graduation and transitional planning.
Extended School Year Program
- East Mountain School offers a 6-week Summer Program during July and August of each year.
- Summer School Hours for students are 9:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. daily.
- This program offers a combination of academic and recreational activities.
- In addition, students can arrange to complete academic work to assist in meeting high school graduation requirements. These arrangements must be approved by their sending districts. The summer program supports academic and behavioral gains and to avoid regression in these areas. Students participate in P.E. class daily. Our P.E. program includes Health instruction and Driver’s Education.

Monday – Friday 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
7-Period School Day; 45-minute class periods
Student transportation is provided by the public school sending district or by parent/guardian.
